Carpooling Radars in France: Innovation for Green Mobility and Less Congestion
Lufop
Hello, dear readers of Lufop.net! We want to share with you an important update regarding a new radar technology that is gradually transforming the roads of France: carpooling radars. Are you wondering what this is about? Let’s get into the heart of the matter.
What are carpooling radars?
Carpooling radars are a technological innovation designed to enforce the use of lanes dedicated to carpooling on major roadways in France. The introduction of these radars aims to encourage carpooling and reduce pollution.
How do these radars work?
These sophisticated radars use two cameras. One serves to identify the vehicle’s license plate, while the other takes blurred photos of the inside of the vehicle. Thanks to thermal technology, the radars can detect the number of passengers in the vehicle by identifying body temperatures.
How are these carpooling radars used?
When a white diamond is displayed on a sign located on the leftmost lane of major roadways, this means that the lane is reserved for carpoolers, public transport, and Crit’Air zero vehicles. If a driver who is alone uses this lane, they can be flashed by the carpooling radar and face a fine of 135 euros.
Where are these radars currently installed?
To date, five of these radars are operational in France: on the A48 in Grenoble, on the M7 south of Lyon, on the M6 north of Lyon, and two on the D3508 north of Annecy. They will soon be added to the Lufop radar database.
What are the future plans for these carpooling radars?
Although these radars are still in the development phase, the French government plans to accelerate their deployment starting from next year and to generalize sanctions for drivers who do not respect carpooling rules.
Keep an eye on Lufop.net for the latest GPS updates regarding these carpooling radars. Have you already encountered one of these new radars? Add it to the Lufop.net database under the Fixed Carpooling Radar category. We will strive to keep you informed of all new technologies and road regulations in France. By encouraging carpooling, we can all contribute to a greener and less congested future. What to download Speed Camera in France ?
